My last live music event of 2014 was a gem of a show of two acts that we have had the joy to get to know during the last year or so. A mini review to reflect on fab songs and the importance of supporting live, independent music, both nominees for musician of the year in the Ultimate Planet Awards.
Two duos, both from “the north”, both proudly independent acts, both exquisite song-writing partnerships, both having success gigging in London right now, luckily for us…
First up, our favourite find of the year, Me and Deboe with their perfect, synchronistic, furiously delicate strumming and harmonising, belting out mesmerising self-penned tunes such as “Mother Shipton” and
“Forward”, tempered only by the slower paced fragile “Ten Toes” displaying a humble vulnerability.
Always fun, always on point and always lovely, a great opener for this intimate, cosy pre-xmas gig.
After the break, Rita Payne including suitcase took to the stage, delivering a chilled out set exemplifying a wonderful balanced partnership of a duo.
With unanticipated harmonies, a female guitar lead, and an exciting wide range of original material, it’s no wonder Rita Payne are receiving a plethora of critics’ appreciation for their songwriting and gigs. Both acts promised lots to come for next year, we for one cannot wait!
